An Unusual Friendship- This is a book I wrote about a dragon, hedgehog, people and animals and how they had to overcome their differences to make their world better.

There are many books I used to help students become readers and to enjoy reading. I had a 9 year old boy who struggled with reading. Consequently, in his words, "I hate reading". After working with him on decoding I introduced him to the Henry Heckelbeck series.He loved them and kept asking for more of his books. Now he is into the "Who Was.." series because he loved history. 

I had a 6th grade girl who struggled with reading and was embarrassed to carry books that were on her reading level. I introduced her to the Amulet series and she has read everyone of the books. I next had her move onto A Long Walk to Water. She found this to be a great book as well.

I try to find what kids are interested in, then I do research to find a book on their level that might "hook" the child into reading.

Read, read, read....that is what is lacking today with children, in my opinion. It is too easy to go on their phone or ipad to play games. Reading can take you on much better adventures!
